Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“Is there an old fear you realized recently you've just... outgrown?”
What to listen for
If they can name one with a bit of pride or amusement, they're aware of their own growth and comfortable acknowledging how far they've come, which builds real confidence going forward.
If they can't think of one right away, that's fine, sometimes growth is invisible until much later, and the question alone can plant a seed of noticing it.
If a fear comes up that they're clearly still working through despite saying they've "outgrown" it, let that be okay too, growth isn't always a clean finish line.
What this tells you
The fear they've outgrown shows you a concrete way they've become more capable and secure over time.
