Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“What do you think has changed the most about you in the last year?”
What to listen for
If they can name something clearly, more confident, less patient, different interests, they have a strong, developing sense of their own story and trust that change is a normal, good thing, not something to hide.
If they say "nothing really," that might be true, or it might mean change feels uncomfortable to name out loud, either way, no need to convince them otherwise.
If they mention a change you hadn't noticed, take it in without correcting or arguing your own view of them, let their self-perception be the one that counts here.
What this tells you
What they name as most changed shows you how they currently understand their own growth and whether they feel proud or unsure about it.
