What to listen for

If they include things they love, animals, colors, activities, they're expressing pride in what makes them uniquely them, a healthy sign of self-identity forming.

If they include something about family or friends in the design, that shows their sense of self is deeply tied to the people they love, which is worth noticing warmly.

If they say "I don't know," ask what colors or shapes feel like "them" to start narrowing it down.
