Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“Have you noticed something unfair happen to someone recently? What did you do or wish you'd done?”
What to listen for
If they describe speaking up, telling a grown-up, or including someone left out, they're developing a real sense of justice paired with the courage to act on it, worth genuine, specific praise.
If they noticed the unfairness but froze or didn't know what to do, reassure them that noticing is the hard part and already means a lot, then gently brainstorm one small thing they could try next time.
If they say they didn't notice anything, that's fine, you could share something you noticed as a model, without turning it into a lesson.
What this tells you
This shows how tuned in they are to fairness for others, not just for themselves, and how ready they feel to act on it.
