What to listen for

If they can describe this happening and how it felt afterward (relief, pride, maybe still a little scared), they're building a real, internal sense that honesty is worth the discomfort, a huge value to keep noticing out loud.

If they admit they've hidden a mistake instead, respond with calm curiosity rather than disappointment, ask what made hiding it feel safer, since that tells you what would make honesty feel safer next time.

If they can't think of an example, that's fine, you can share a time you chose honesty over comfort, modeling that even grown-ups find it hard.
