Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“Tell me about a time you had to go along with a decision you didn't agree with. How did you handle it?”
What to listen for
If they describe feeling frustrated but still going along calmly, that shows real emotional strength, being able to accept something without losing themselves.
If they mention it still bugs them, let them air it out fully, sometimes just being heard about an old unfairness is enough to let it go.
If they can't think of one, ask about a rule at school or home they disagree with and how they usually respond to it.
What this tells you
How they handled disagreeing with a decision shows how secure they feel even when they don't get their way.
