A sweet or funny observation shows they're paying close attention to you as a person, not just as a parent. Receive it warmly, however small or silly it is.

If they mention something that surprises you, resist explaining or correcting, just take in how they see you.

If they're stuck, that's okay; the fact that you asked plants the idea for them to notice more going forward.
