Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“What have you picked up about love just from watching how we treat each other around here?”
What to listen for
If they describe something warm and specific, that's them absorbing your example as a real model for their own future relationships, this is one of the most important things they'll carry forward, so let the moment breathe.
If they mention something more complicated, including friction they've noticed, stay open rather than defensive, they're trusting you with an honest observation, not an accusation.
If they're not sure or feel put on the spot, ease up, this is a big question for a school night, and a lighter version of it can always come back around another time.
What this tells you
What they've noticed about love in your home is quietly becoming their model, and this tells you what they're learning to expect and give in relationships of their own.
