A thoughtful answer here shows they're noticing themselves growing into more responsibility or a different kind of relationship with you, that's them wanting to be seen as more capable and trusted, not less connected. Affirm the shift rather than resisting it.

If they mention wanting more say in decisions, take that as information, not a threat to your authority, it's a completely normal part of this age.

If they're unsure how to answer, that's fine, you could mention one specific way you've noticed them growing, which often opens the door wider.
