Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“What does peace actually look like for you at the end of a genuinely hard day?”
What to listen for
If they describe something quiet and specific, music, a shower, silence, a particular person, that's real self-knowledge about how they recover, and it deserves to be protected and made easier to access, not scheduled around.
If peace for them involves being left alone for a while, that's not rejection of you, they need that space honored without guilt trips about connection.
If they say they don't really feel peace, just numbness or exhaustion, take that seriously and gently, that's worth a slower, softer follow-up another time.
What this tells you
What peace looks like to them shows you exactly how to help them land safely after a rough day.
