What to listen for

If they describe new interests replacing old ones with excitement, that evolving curiosity is a healthy sign of growth, they need that shift celebrated, not treated as flakiness or a phase to worry about.

If they mention losing interest in things they used to love, ask gently what pulled their attention elsewhere rather than mourning the old hobby out loud, they need to feel like moving on is allowed.

If they say their interests have stayed pretty steady, that consistency is also worth naming as a strength, not boredom.
