What to listen for

If they name shared humor, stories, or a specific activity, that's a real bridge across generations worth nurturing, they need that connection to be seen as valuable, not old-fashioned.

If they mention feeling a gap they wish wasn't there, listen without rushing to fix it, sometimes naming the distance is the first step toward closing it.

If they say not much connects them, ask what they wish they knew about that person instead, curiosity can open a door interest alone couldn't.
