Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“What connects you to people from a totally different generation, like a grandparent or an older relative?”
What to listen for
If they name shared humor, stories, or a specific activity, that's a real bridge across generations worth nurturing, they need that connection to be seen as valuable, not old-fashioned.
If they mention feeling a gap they wish wasn't there, listen without rushing to fix it, sometimes naming the distance is the first step toward closing it.
If they say not much connects them, ask what they wish they knew about that person instead, curiosity can open a door interest alone couldn't.
What this tells you
What connects them across generations shows you where they feel rooted in something bigger than just their own age group.
