“Is there a skill an older relative has that you'd love to learn from them?”

What to listen for

If they name something specific, that's a sign they're seeing older relatives as real sources of wisdom and connection, not just people to visit out of obligation, a lovely thing worth actually setting up.

Listen for whether they want the skill itself or the time with that person, often it's really about wanting more one-on-one connection with someone they admire.

If they can't think of anything, ask what they find most interesting about that relative in general, the skill might follow from there.
