What to listen for

If they name something right away, even with an eye-roll, it means they feel secure enough in the family to admit affection without it being uncool, that's a real gift of honesty.

If they laugh and say "okay fine, actually..." before answering, that hesitation is just them protecting their image a little, not holding back from you emotionally.

A genuine "I can't think of one" is rare but fine, you can leave it open and revisit some other night without making it a bigger deal than it is.
