Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“If you could go absolutely anywhere in the whole world tomorrow, where would you pick?”
What to listen for
If they pick somewhere wild and fantastical, that's just fun imagination, enjoy the ride with them. If they pick somewhere tied to a person (grandma's house, a friend's town), that's a clue that the destination matters less than who's there.
Notice whether their pick is about adventure (jungle, ocean, mountain) or about comfort (somewhere they've been and loved), that split often mirrors whether they're currently craving new experiences or reassurance and familiarity.
If they say "I don't know," ask "somewhere hot or somewhere cold" to give them an easier fork to choose from.
What this tells you
Whether their dream trip chases adventure or comfort hints at what they're craving more of right now.
