If they focus on an apology or a chance to try again, they're showing they understand relationships can bend without breaking, that people can mess up and still be trusted again, which means they feel steady enough to forgive.

If they want a strict consequence or say the person shouldn't be trusted anymore, they might be craving more predictability and fairness in their own world right now, clear rules help them feel like things won't just fall apart unexpectedly.

If they say "I don't know," bring up something small and safe, like a playdate promise, so the question has a shape they can hold onto.
