What to listen for

If they can point to a specific moment, they're building a real skill, noticing good things on purpose, which helps them feel more in control of their own mood instead of just being swept along by it.

If they struggle to think of one, that's completely normal at this age, you can share a moment of your own first, since modeling it out loud often teaches this better than asking for it cold.

If they say "I don't know" or "nothing," gently ask about something small, like a favorite snack or a sunny moment outside, to lower the bar.
