What to listen for

If they can name the feeling and a way through it, like taking a breath or reminding themselves it's just a game, they're building real emotional control that will help them for life.

If they describe getting really upset and struggling to bounce back, that's honest and common at this age, it's a good moment to practice a calming strategy together for next time, without shaming the reaction itself.

If they say "I don't know," bring up a specific recent game they lost to make it concrete.
