What to listen for

If they can name something specific and track their own progress, they're building real self-discipline and a sense that they can shape who they become through steady effort.

If they haven't thought about it that way before, that's a great chance to help them pick something small and doable together, which teaches them that growth happens in tiny daily steps, not all at once.

If they say "I don't know," suggest something you've noticed them wanting to improve at, and ask if that feels right.
