The prompt

“Is there something a grandparent does or used to do that you want to keep doing when you're older?”

What to listen for

If they name a specific ritual, food, or saying, they're showing they feel connected to family history and want to carry it forward, which gives them a real sense of belonging across generations.

If they mention something more about how the grandparent made them feel, like always having time for them, that's them naming what kind of presence they want to be for people someday too.

If they say "I don't know," bring up a specific memory of that grandparent to jog it loose.
