What to listen for

If they can describe a pattern, giving space, checking in, cracking a joke, they're absorbing how emotions get handled in your house, and that pattern is quietly becoming their own template for handling feelings.

If they describe it as tense or scary, that's important information worth taking seriously and maybe revisiting how conflict shows up at home.

If they say "I don't know," ask what they do themselves when they're the grumpy one, and work backward from there.
