The prompt

“If two kids both think it's their turn on the swing, how would you figure out who's right?”

What to listen for

If they suggest counting, asking who was there first, or taking turns with a timer, that logical fairness shows they want clear, predictable rules they can trust in a disagreement.

If they say something like "just ask a grown-up," that's fine too, it shows they know when to lean on help instead of forcing it themselves.

If they say "whoever gets there first wins forever," gently ask if that seems fair to the other kid, to nudge their thinking without lecturing.
