Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“If you could whisper one thing to a baby sibling, or a baby you'll have someday, what would you tell them?”
What to listen for
If they say something protective or loving, like "I'll keep you safe," that shows a tender, caring side of them that wants to look after people they love.
If they say something funny or bossy, like "don't touch my stuff," that's normal too, and often hides real affection underneath the humor.
If they don't have a sibling and seem unsure, ask what they'd tell a baby cousin or a friend's new baby instead.
What this tells you
The message they'd whisper shows how they picture their own role of caring for someone smaller and more vulnerable.
