Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“Tell me about a time you were worried about something and then it turned out okay. What did that feel like?”
What to listen for
If they describe the relief clearly, like their tummy relaxing or feeling light, that's them learning to notice their own body's signals, which helps them handle worry better over time.
If they mention you or someone else helping them through the worry, that shows they feel safe leaning on people when things feel uncertain.
If they can't think of a time, ask about a worry they have right now, so you can help it head toward relief together.
What this tells you
How they describe relief shows whether they're learning that scary feelings usually pass and don't have to be faced alone.
