“What's one goal you have for the rest of this week, something you want to get done or get better at?”

What to listen for

A clear, specific goal shows they're starting to think ahead and take ownership of their own progress. Help them break it into one small first step.

If their goal is more about fun than achievement, that's completely fine too, it still shows what matters to them right now.

If they can't think of anything, suggest something you've noticed they're working toward and ask if that counts.
