Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“How loud do you think is too loud for talking inside the house?”
What to listen for
A thoughtful answer shows they're developing their own sense of self-control around noise, not just reacting to being told to quiet down. Ask them to demonstrate an 'inside voice.'
If they say almost any volume is fine, that's a good chance to playfully test out different volumes together.
If they bring up a specific moment they got in trouble for being loud, listen for how they're feeling about it rather than re-litigating the rule.
What this tells you
This shows you how they're internalizing shared space rules versus needing outside reminders.
