What to listen for

If they invent something clear, like holding up a hand or saying a code word, they're showing real skill at knowing their own limits and wanting a respectful way to protect them.

If they say "I'd just go to my room," that's a fine answer too, it shows they already know a safe place to retreat to, which matters more than the signal itself.

If they say "I don't know," offer an idea, like a certain hand sign, and ask if that feels right, co-creating the signal makes it more likely they'll actually use it.

What this tells you
