Tonight with your 9 to 12 year old
The prompt
“Has your friend group ever had drama that you got pulled into without really wanting to be?”
What to listen for
If they can describe navigating it while staying true to themselves, they're building real skill at handling social pressure without losing their footing.
If they seem stressed retelling it, they may need reassurance that it's okay to step back from group drama entirely, they don't have to have an opinion on everything.
If they say it hasn't happened, that's good to know, but also worth a gentle heads-up that it becomes more common as friend groups grow, so they know it's normal when it does.
What this tells you
This tells you how much pressure they feel to get involved in group conflict, and how equipped they feel to protect their own peace.
