What to listen for

If they describe the slow, unglamorous parts, the plateaus, the small wins, the boring repetition, it means they understand real growth isn't instant, which is a mature and useful perspective to have.

If they mention frustration along the way, don't rush to cheer them up; sitting with the frustration as a normal part of the process is more validating than trying to talk them out of it.

If they say it just feels like nothing happens and then suddenly it clicks, that's a completely legitimate way to experience progress too.
