If they can name a specific situation, they're comfortable being vulnerable about a tender spot, which is a strong sign of trust in this conversation.

If they seem to brush it off quickly, they may need you to simply validate that feeling left out is genuinely hard, without trying to immediately fix or explain it away.

If they say nothing really does, take that at face value, but keep the door open by mentioning you're always glad to hear about it if that changes.
