If they can describe holding their ground, even if it felt uncomfortable, they're building a sense of identity that doesn't bend just to fit in, that kind of quiet independence deserves specific, genuine praise.

If they admit they went along with the group instead, resist shaming them for it, ask what would have made it easier to hold their own line, since that tells you what support they actually need.

If they say "I don't know," ask about a rule right now that friends sometimes break, and what they'd do in that moment.
