Tonight with your 9 to 12 year old
The prompt
“If you could explore anywhere in nature, anywhere at all, where would you want to go?”
What to listen for
Notice whether they picture themselves alone in that place or with people, solitary picks often mean they crave quiet and space to think, while picks full of people mean they want adventure shared.
If they describe the place in a lot of sensory detail (sounds, smells, how it would feel), that's a sign of a rich inner imagination that's worth feeding with real trips, books, or documentaries about that kind of place.
If they can't pick one, ask what kind of place feels most like "them", mountains, ocean, forest, desert, sometimes the category is easier than the specific spot.
What this tells you
Their dream destination tells you what kind of environment actually makes them feel free and alive.
