What to listen for

If they can describe a moment of choosing silence on purpose, that shows real emotional maturity, they're learning that not every conflict needs to be won out loud, which is a subtle but important skill.

Listen for whether the silence came from strength (choosing to let it go) or from fear (being too scared to speak), those feel very different and deserve different kinds of follow-up from you.

If nothing comes to mind, ask about a recent disagreement and whether staying quiet ever crossed their mind as an option, sometimes the idea is there even without a clear memory attached.
