Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“Who's the friend who's known you the longest, and what's that like now?”
What to listen for
If they talk about the friendship with warmth, it means they value long-term loyalty and continuity, and that history with someone means something real to them.
If they mention the friendship has changed or drifted, listen without jumping to "well, friendships change" reassurance too quickly, let them sit with whatever mixed feelings come up first.
If they say they don't really have someone like that, that's worth just noting gently rather than treating as a problem to solve right now.
What this tells you
This shows you how they value long history and loyalty in relationships, and what that particular bond currently means to them.
