Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“Has anyone crossed a line with you recently, and how did you end up handling it?”
What to listen for
If they tell the story and describe standing up for themselves, it means they're building real confidence in protecting their own limits, which deserves clear, specific praise.
If they describe freezing or not knowing how to respond in the moment, resist criticizing that reaction, freezing is normal, and naming it out loud afterward is already a form of processing it well.
If they seem reluctant to share details, don't push for specifics; just make clear you're glad they're thinking about it and you're available if they want to talk more.
What this tells you
This shows you how equipped they currently feel to protect their own boundaries when someone oversteps.
