What to listen for

An honest answer here is a real act of trust, admitting there's a fuller, more unguarded self that only certain people get to see means they're thinking carefully about who earns their vulnerability, which is a healthy, discerning instinct. Receive it without asking whether you're one of the few.

If they mention specific people, don't press for more detail than they offer, the fact that they're aware of the difference is the meaningful part, not the full inventory of who sees what.

If they don't want to describe it, that's completely fine, some things are precisely valuable because they stay unnamed, even to a parent.
