If they answer with something about character, kind, funny, real, they care about being known for who they actually are, not just how they appear, which means they need to feel their true self is enough.

If they focus on how they look or perform, that might reflect pressure they feel to impress rather than just be. No need to correct it, just notice it.

A playful or silly answer is often a sign of comfort, not deflection, let the humor be the honest answer.
