Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“If a stranger only knew you for five minutes, what do you hope they'd walk away thinking?”
What to listen for
If they answer with something about character, kind, funny, real, they care about being known for who they actually are, not just how they appear, which means they need to feel their true self is enough.
If they focus on how they look or perform, that might reflect pressure they feel to impress rather than just be. No need to correct it, just notice it.
A playful or silly answer is often a sign of comfort, not deflection, let the humor be the honest answer.
What this tells you
The impression they hope to leave reveals what they most want to be valued for, separate from anyone's expectations.
