Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“Is there a feeling that shows up in your body before your mind even catches up to what's going on?”
What to listen for
If they can name a physical cue, tight chest, restless legs, clenched jaw, they're building real body awareness, which helps them trust their gut instead of being surprised by their own reactions.
If they say they don't really notice their body that way, that's common and not concerning, you can simply plant the idea that it's worth paying attention to, without pressing further tonight.
Whatever feeling they name, resist the urge to analyze it on the spot, the goal is just for them to feel heard noticing it.
What this tells you
Naming a feeling that arrives in the body first shows how tuned in they currently are to their own inner signals.
