Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“What have you learned about picking which battles are actually worth having?”
What to listen for
If they describe weighing what really matters versus what's not worth the energy, they're developing real judgment about conflict, which shows growing maturity and self-trust in their own decisions.
If they say they fight about everything or avoid all conflict, either extreme is worth understanding rather than correcting, ask what's underneath it gently, if they're open to it.
A simple "I just know when it matters" without elaboration is a fine, confident answer on its own.
What this tells you
How they choose their battles shows you how much confidence they have in their own judgment under pressure.
