Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“What does it actually mean to you when you call someone 'your person'?”
What to listen for
A thoughtful definition, someone who shows up, someone who doesn't judge, someone who just gets it, shows what they value most in close relationships and what kind of connection makes them feel truly safe.
If they name someone specific while explaining it, that person clearly plays an important role in their life right now, and it's worth just appreciating that out loud rather than probing further.
If they say they don't really have one yet, that's honest and okay, wanting one is itself a sign of healthy longing for real connection.
What this tells you
Their definition of 'their person' reveals what kind of closeness makes them feel like they truly belong to someone.
