What to listen for

If they talk about being asked before assumptions are made, about their phone, their friendships, their choices, they need to feel that their inner world is treated as theirs to open, not something to be walked into.

If they mention a specific time that boundary was crossed, listen without getting defensive, they need to know naming it won't cause a fight, it'll be taken seriously.

If they say it's not a big deal, take that at face value for now, but keep the door open for later, some things take a few tries to say out loud.
