What to listen for

If they describe a real "aha" moment, in school, in a relationship, in how something works, that pride in understanding deserves genuine enthusiasm back; they need to know that growth in understanding is worth celebrating, not just grades or outcomes.

If the click was about a person or a relationship rather than a subject, that's often the more meaningful kind, give it the same weight as an academic breakthrough.

If nothing comes to mind, ask about something they're still confused by, sometimes naming the current puzzle is just as valuable as celebrating a solved one.
