If they describe pushing through without feeling inspired and still getting something done, that's real character forming, they need that persistence named clearly, since motivation gets all the credit in most conversations.

If they admit motivation usually wins and discipline is still a struggle, meet that honestly without disappointment, they need to feel like admitting a weak spot is safe, not something to be fixed on the spot.

If nothing comes to mind, ask about something they do consistently even when they don't want to, homework, chores, practice, the answer might be hiding in the mundane.
