Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“Tell me about a time being organized, like planning ahead or putting things in order, actually helped you today.”
What to listen for
If they can name a concrete example, like packing their bag the night before, that shows they're starting to see planning as something that pays off, not just a chore.
If they say it made them feel calmer or more ready, that's a great sign they're connecting structure with feeling in control of their own day.
If they can't think of one, ask what part of their day would have gone smoother if they'd planned ahead a little.
What this tells you
Noticing how organization helped shows they're building confidence in their own ability to handle what's ahead of them.
