Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“Tell me about a disagreement you actually solved all by yourself, no grown-up needed.”
What to listen for
If they describe the steps they took, like talking it out or taking turns, that pride in solving it alone shows real, growing confidence in handling hard moments.
If they mention it still took some effort or wasn't easy, that honesty is valuable, tough things that get solved anyway build the most real confidence.
If they can't think of one, ask about a small disagreement they could try solving on their own next time, framing it as a fun challenge.
What this tells you
Solving a conflict without help shows they're building real trust in their own ability to handle hard moments.
