Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“Is there someone you drifted from that you'd actually want to reconnect with, if it felt easy to do?”
What to listen for
If they name someone with warmth, that lingering care after drifting apart shows loyalty that doesn't just disappear with distance, they need that instinct honored, maybe even gently encouraged.
If they seem unsure how to make the first move, that hesitation is completely normal, they need to know it's okay not to have a plan yet, reconnecting doesn't have to happen on a deadline.
If they say they're at peace with the distance, respect that fully, not every relationship is meant to be revived, and knowing that is its own kind of wisdom.
What this tells you
Who they'd want to reconnect with shows you which relationships still matter to them even after time and distance.
