What to listen for

If they name something with a bit of pride, that's a great sign of real, felt growth, they're not just older, they've actually built courage or competence that they can point to, which strengthens their belief that they can handle hard things.

If they mention something surprisingly vulnerable, like a fear tied to belonging or performance, listen without minimizing it even though they've "outgrown" it, the fact that it once mattered still matters.

If they can't think of anything, that's fine, you could mention a fear you remember them having and ask if it's still there, which can jog the memory gently.

This shows you concrete evidence, in their own words, of how much braver and more capable they've become, which is worth reflecting back to them.
