Tonight with your 13 to 17 year old
The prompt
“Was there a moment recently something totally ordinary we do made you feel grateful?”
What to listen for
If they mention something small and specific, a ride to somewhere, a meal, a random comment, it means they're noticing and valuing the quiet, unglamorous parts of being taken care of, not just the big gestures.
If they seem a little embarrassed to admit gratitude, that's normal at this age; just receive it warmly without making a big deal that might make them retreat from saying it next time.
If nothing comes to mind, that's okay too, you don't need to fish for compliments here, just leave space for it to surface another day.
What this tells you
This shows you what ordinary parts of daily life are quietly landing as care in their eyes, even when they don't say so out loud.
