The prompt

“How can you tell when your brother or sister is feeling sad, even if they don't say it?”

What to listen for

If they can name real clues, like a quiet voice or a certain face, they're building genuine emotional awareness of the people around them, which is a wonderful skill.

If they say they never notice, that's not a failure, just an area to gently grow, you can point out a clue together next time it happens.

If they say "I don't know," ask them to think of a time they themselves were sad without saying it, and what gave it away.

What this tells you
