Tonight with your 5 to 8 year old
The prompt
“If our whole family had a big reunion with everyone, what job or role would you want to have that day?”
What to listen for
If they pick something visible, like greeter, game leader, or announcer, they may be craving a role where they're seen and valued for something specific they bring to the group.
If they pick something quieter, like helping set up food or being with the littlest cousins, that could show they feel good contributing behind the scenes and connecting one-on-one rather than in the spotlight.
If they say "I don't know," ask what job they'd give you, sometimes imagining your role first frees them up to imagine their own.
What this tells you
Their chosen role reveals how they most like to feel valued within a bigger group.
